OKLAHOMA CITY – Senators Rob Standridge and Paul Scott recently reached out to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation after receiving numerous inquiries from residents in Norman and the surrounding area about the I-35/SH-9W intersection.

“This is a particularly dangerous intersection. Drivers’ confusion has led to several near misses and I’m pleased that ODOT is addressing the problem before anyone is seriously hurt.  ODOT has confirmed that they’ll be fixing the intersection starting on Thursday,” said Standridge, R-Norman.  “I want to thank ODOT for their diligence in always working to make our roads and highways safer and more efficient as traffic increases in certain areas like the I-35/SH-9W intersection.”

ODOT will be placing around 300 feet of channelizing devices to separate the southbound to westbound turn lane from the SH-9W through traffic starting on November 1.  Work will be completed at night to minimize traffic interruptions.

“It’s so important that our roads and highways are continually being updated to account for local economic and population growth,” said Scott, R-Duncan.  “The I-35/SH-9W intersection is a great example of those continual changes but it’s also important that roadways remain safe throughout that growing process. ODOT has done a great job in quickly addressing the problems with this particular intersection.”
